Taping Instructions
Using the correct tape is very important for the safety of your negatives and our equipment. Some tapes can not be removed once in place. Permanent damage to your negative could occur if you or the lab would have to recard a negative.
Drafting Masking Tape #230 3/4" Size
No masking or "old fashion" transparent tape, please. When taping a medium format negative please tape at top and bottom of crop card, even if you are using horizontal pose. This helps to ensure the safety of your negative when you slide the card in the glassine.
How To Card Correctly
1. Lay clear acetate cropping guide (available from Garrett & Lane at no cost) on your light box.
2. Hold negative over rectangle to determine best crop card size. Make sure important details in the negative are not too close to crop lines. If in doubt always choose larger crop.
3. Take corresponding crop card and lay FACE DOWN over acetate guide. You will notice the lines on the acetate are smaller than the cut out on the card. The acetate guide shows the actual cropping.
4. Position your negative in the window to achieve the desired cropping. You should be able to read film type and frame number, if it's backwards you are mounting the negative incorrectly.
5. Tape with drafting tape (see Taping section above)
6. Fill out printed side of crop card and glassine. If you are checking (x) Package Units remember to use a Red Package Reprint Bag. If you have purposely carded your negative backward, please state that fact on the card and glassine.
